Canon Alan McLean was born in Battersea on 23rd May 1952 and grew up in Walworth. After discerning a vocation to the priesthood, he studied at St John’s Seminary, Wonersh and was ordained at St George’s Cathedral on 18th June 1978.

After serving in Worcester Park, Purley, and Forest Hill, Fr Alan was appointed Parish Priest of the Most Holy Trinity, Dockhead, in May 1993, where he served for the remaining thirty-three years of his life.

Canon Alan was a much-loved parish priest whose ministry was characterised by his dedication to his parishioners, his wonderful sense of humour, and a particular care for the marginalised. A gifted musician, he also made an outstanding contribution to the Archdiocese’s liturgical life, directing the Southwark Diocesan Choir for many years.

Canon Alan died at Dockhead on 12th June 2026, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was an appropriate feast day for a priest who had served our parish community with all his heart.
